Robert Edd Matthews
Robert Edd Matthews was born on October 22, 1931, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to the late Hubert “Slim” and Anna May (McHone) Matthews. He was raised in Shattuck with his sister Betty (Matthews) Holt, where they attended school. On February 7, 2022, he passed away at his home in Shattuck.
Edd enlisted in the Navy in June of 1951. When he returned from boot camp, he married his high school sweetheart, Neoma Ruth (Coffman) Matthews, on September 24, 1951. Edd and Neoma lived in Long Beach, California, and Corpus Christi, Texas, until he finished his enlistment in the Navy in 1955. After that, they moved back to Shattuck, where they raised four boys: Mike, Tom, Neal, and Kelly.
After coming back to Shattuck, Edd had many job opportunities. He worked for Nichols Casing Crew, had a custom hay service, did carpentry work, and worked in the oil field. However, his passion was farming and ranching. He and Neoma would always be out working with their cattle. Neoma loved the cattle like they were pets and even named them. The neighbors weren’t close in distance to their farm, but anytime a friend needed help, Edd was always to lend a hand, and they too would repay the favor. That’s just how it was back then – neighbors helping neighbors!
He is preceded in death by his wife Neoma (Coffman) Matthews, sister Betty (Matthews) Holt, son Mike Matthews, and other loving family members. He is survived by Mike’s wife, Elaine, son Tom and wife Sandy, son Neal and wife Justina, and son Kelly and wife Anna. 13 grandchildren also survive him: Scott and Bretta Matthews, Dusty and Neal Sperry, Clint and Roxanna Matthews, Jennifer and John McDaniel, Blain Matthews, Amber Matthews, Emily, and Kyle Duke, Tim Matthews, Logan Matthews, Kambria and Brandon Witschi, TaKeyah and Dillon Dugger, Wesley and Mandy Hess, Cassie and Casey Moore, along with several great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
