Fred Haskell Rabe
Fred Haskell Rabe was born on May 25, 1936 at Shattuck, Oklahoma. His parents were Herman Rabe and Lucille Mariner Rabe. The first eleven years of his life, Fred lived at Woodward, Oklahoma with his parents and brother Gary. After the 1947 Woodward tornado, they moved to Shattuck. At Shattuck High School, Fred played football, baseball and basketball for four years and belonged to the “S” Club. After High School graduation, he joined the U.S. Army in 1959. He spent eight years overseas fighting for our Country’s freedom. In 1956, Fred married Joan Longhofer. They had two sons Mark Rabe and Dennis Rabe. Fred was employed in pipeline construction as a pilot and other positions. On October 31, 1976, Fred married Darlene Kelln who was a classmate in Shattuck Schools. As Fred was a licensed pilot, they flew to various parts of the U.S. on vacations. After retirement, they traveled by motorhome with their German Shepard, Lucky who was a member of their family for 14 years. Fred was asked by the Shattuck Chamber of Commerce to put on a Shattuck Car Show. He was involved with this for five years. He was also President of the Shattuck Senior Citizen Center for several years. Fred was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion. Fred attended the Lutheran Church at Shattuck and also the Bible Baptist Church at Dodge City, Kansas. Fred is survived by his wife Darlene, son Mark Rabe and wife Brenda of Dallas, Texas, son Dennis Rabe and wife Elaine of Fowler, Colorado, brother Gary Rabe of Shattuck, 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services was held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel in Shattuck, Oklahoma at 2:00 P.M. followed by military honors by the Laverne American Legion Post #273 and interment at the Shattuck Memorial Cemetery.
